THE BC DEFINITION OF SNOWMOBILING

What is snowmobiling? For some people snowmobiling doesn’t go past what is written in the dictionary; a 12-letter word that breaks down into 4 syllables with a vague definition of what it’s all about: “the activity or pastime of travelling by snowmobile.” However, for a growing group of sledders, snowmobiling means so much more than what any dictionary can define.

Although each rider differentiates from the next, whether it be from their preferred brand of snowmobile or pick of riding gear, the type of riding they enjoy or what terrain they dig, one thing we can all agree on or relate to, is what sledding means. There is no wrong answer, in fact, there are only correct answers; It can symbolize new lasting friendships, a means to cleanse one's mind and soul, it can be a separation from society, a way to stop time, or provide a sense of accomplishment and self-development. Above all, we riders can all agree that snowmobiling equals freedom… an escape from our personal realities and chaotic lives below the clouds.

There is no moment like firing up your sled after a long snowless summer. The scent and sound ignites the fire that's been smouldering inside of you for months. As the sled vibrates beneath you, you can't help but start to feel the calmness you've been yearning for all year. A quick pull to start is just the beginning of every long-awaited road trip, each mountain sunset trail ride home, all of the friends you lost touch with when the snow melted, and every blissful moment spent enjoying the view from the mountain. This is what we work for…Snowmobiling; the healthiest way to escape the pressures of life and leave them far behind your track.

If snowmobiling means to you what a dictionary would define, challenge yourself to explore further than that vague definition. Get to know a local rider, volunteer with a snowmobile club, or visit a sled shop, kick some tracks and toss around the idea of getting to know the real meaning behind the sport. When you choose to snowmobile, you choose adventure, and that adventure starts right here in BC.
