INSURNACE &

REGISTRATION

SNOWMOBILE USE IN BC IS REGULATED BY THE OFF-ROAD VEHICLE ACT. THIS IS LAW AND APPLIES TO SNOWMOBILE USE ON CROWN LAND, INCLUDING FOREST SERVICE ROADS, TRAILS, FREERIDE ZONES, AND STAGING AREAS.

When snowmobiling in British Columbia, you are required by law to have:

  • A one time fee of $48 provides you with an ICBC number plate or decal which must be clearly displayed on front, back, or left side of vehicle. A copy of registration must be carried on your person.

If traveling from out of province you must be registered in your home jurisdiction. If licensing and registration are not available in your home jurisdiction, you must carry proof of ownership documents while riding in BC.

To register your snowmobile you will require a certificate or origin, bill of sale, or statutory declaration (MV1484) along with your transfer/tax form.

  • A minimum of $200,000 liability insurance is required to travel on snow-covered forest service roads that are considered trails in the winter and / or to load or unload in staging areas.

Insurance is available through a number of providers. BCSF Club Members receive up to a 25% discount on insurance through Capri Off Road Insurance.
