YANK’S PEAK RIDE GUIDE: PROSPECTING FOR WHITE GOLD

Enter the radiant frontier of the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast, where the brilliant hues of boundless skies illuminate a landscape steeped in the legacy of the gold rush era.

Yanks Peak has long been a haven for those captivated by the spirit of exploration. In 1860, legendary prospector William "the Live Yank" Luce made history by staking his claim in this terrain, located at the crossroads of the rugged Cariboo Mountains and Fraser Plateau. His modest cabin ultimately became a critical overnight refuge for travelers navigating the wildnerness through these traditional lands of the Secwepemc, T'exelcemc and Xat'súll First Nations. Since Luce's time, this storied region has continued to attract adventurers, offering not only the promise of gold but also the timeless excitement of discovery.

Today, the legacy of exploration continues under the diligent care of the volunteers from the Williams Lake Powder Kings Snowmobile Club who provide regularly groomed trails and a welcoming backcountry shelter. Linking from the north, the Wells Snowmobile Club maintains additional riding areas making this region worthy of a multiday journey to explore its entirety.
