Road Use Regulations

BECAUSE SLEDDING ISN’T FUN IF YOU DON’T GET THERE… OR COME HOME SAFELY

Sledding in BC involves the safe and responsible use of both front and backcountry road networks. It is every rider’s responsibility to understand and abide by the rules of the road.

TRAVELLING ON BC’S BACKCOUNTRY RESOURCE ROADS

Resource roads are rough gravel roads built for industrial purposes or to access natural resources in remote areas. They are used primarily for logging, mining, gas, or agriculture operations and are not maintained to the same standard as a highway.

In the winter, local snowmobile groups transform BC’s remote industrial forest resource roads into groomed recreation sites, ushering riders on smooth trails or into alpine freeride zones. At times, roads may remain plowed for industrial traffic. By law, you must not operate a snowmobile in BC on a forest service road if it appears the road has been snow-plowed or the road is otherwise fit for travel by motor vehicles other than snowmobiles. Please observe posted radio call up/down procedures to avoid collisions when traveling by motor vehicle and do not block access.
