WHICH SNOWMOBILE SPOT IN GOLDEN, BC IS BEST FOR YOU?

Golden, BC: It’s the kind of place that knows how to throw down a snowmobile adventure. Tucked between the Rockies and the Columbia Mountains, it’s not just some sleepy mountain town. It’s often the first stop for snowmobilers escaping the prairies, looking to trade flatland for the wild, rugged terrain of the Canadian Rockies. And Golden’s got it all—scenic views, deep powder, and a mountain playground that draws riders back season after season.

With so many sled zones in Golden to choose from, it might be tough to decide where to start. Don’t worry—let’s break down the top riding areas so you can find your perfect match. Ready? Let’s go!

QUARTZ CREEK: THE ALL-STAR ZONE FOR EVERYONE

Perfect For: All skill levels, families, and mixed-ability groups.

Quartz Creek is Golden’s crowd-pleaser, and for good reason. Just 30 minutes north of town on Highway 1, it’s easy to access and offers something for everyone. The 14km groomed trail leads to a warm cabin and two riding areas beyond.

  • Prairie Hills (Right): A playground for more experienced riders who love challenging terrain.

  • Old Cabin Valley (Left): Wide, flat meadows that are ideal for beginners and families.

What makes Quartz Creek special is how it brings people together. With terrain for every skill level, families and groups can ride at their own pace and reconnect at the cabin for lunch or after a long day of exploring.

Hot Tip: Get there early—Quartz Creek is as popular as it is versatile, and parking fills up fast!

GORMAN: A PLAYGROUND FOR THE BOLD AND EXPERIENCED

Perfect For: Strong riders seeking big alpine terrain and a challenge.

Gorman is where adventurous riders go to push their limits. Located just 8km from Golden via the Dogtooth Forest Service Road, it offers epic terrain—but only for those who are ready to work for it.

The 20km groomed trail winds through logging cut blocks and crosses avalanche-prone areas before reaching a natural "filter feature": a steep, sustained climb into the alpine. This stretch can test even seasoned riders in deep snow or poor visibility. In good conditions and with a smooth and steady throttle, strong intermediates should have no issue getting to the top.

From the top of the climb, Gorman unfolds into a stunning alpine basin, with sprawling bowls and valleys in every direction. To the south lies Holt, while Lang and Cirque Creek await to the north, with Quartz Creek just beyond.

Hot Tip: Check avalanche conditions before you go. Gorman’s wild terrain demands respect and preparation!

SILENT PASS: YOUR PRIVATE BACKCOUNTRY PLAYGROUND

Perfect For: Intermediate to advanced riders who crave solitude and adventure.

If you’re looking to escape the crowds and find your own slice of untouched wilderness, Silent Pass is the spot. It’s a bit of a mission to get there—just over an hour south of Golden on Highway 93, with a turn at Parsons that can get confusing—but the payoff is worth it.

After navigating the logging roads (check Sled Golden for the latest updates), a groomed trail leads you deep into the wilderness. Eventually, the trail narrows to singletrack through the forest, opening into a small meadow.

  • Play Zone (Right): A great warm-up for intermediate riders.

  • The Waterfall (Left): A short but steep climb into the alpine. Most strong novice riders can manage it with steady throttle control and a little help.

From the top of The Waterfall, Silent Pass reveals its full magic: expansive alpine bowls, tree-lined meadows, and endless possibilities for exploration. On good days, it feels like your own private backcountry playground.

Hot Tip: Plan ahead—this area rewards those who come prepared with navigation skills and avalanche awareness.

WESTBENCH TRAIL; THE SCENIC CRUISER

For Riders Who Love: Groomed trails, mountain views, and a chill ride.

Not every sled mission has to be a powder-chasing, line-slaying adventure. Sometimes, you just want to soak in the views and enjoy a smooth ride—and that’s where the Westbench Trail shines. This groomed trail system offers stunning vistas of Golden’s mountainous landscape, making it perfect for families, beginners, or anyone looking for a relaxed day on the snow.

The Westbench Trail is also a great warm-up zone if you’re new to snowmobiling or just want to shake off the rust before tackling the steeper zones. Easy access, a mellow pace, and killer scenery? Sign us up.

Hot Tip: Don’t forget your camera. The views from the trail are straight-up postcard-worthy.
