HOW TO TURN YOUR SLED-CATION INTO A FAMILY VACATION

It comes as no surprise that British Columbia is recognized as one of the premiere snowmobile destinations in the world.  An impressive $299 million dollars is contributed to the BC economy each year via snowmobile, and snow-bike tourism, but what about those who bring non-riding family members with them on their winter adventures?

One of the benefits of being a member of a snowmobile club is a discount on lodging offered by club supporters, prompting many families to make the most of their money and combine a family trip with a sled getaway.

Non-riders may be those who simply do not snowmobile, or perhaps they’ve opted out of some rides due to their stamina or skill level. What else is there to do in beautiful British Columbia this winter besides snowmobile?

  1. Skiing/Snowshoeing:  Many of our premiere snowmobile destinations are conveniently located near world class ski resorts.  Big White, Red Mountain, Revelstoke Mountain Resort, Fernie Alpine Resort and Kimberly Mountain Resort, just to name a few.  There are also several intricate trail systems throughout the province that are regularly groomed and maintained for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

  2. Recreation Complex:  Most communities in BC have state of the art recreation complexes that offer swimming, climbing, steam rooms, skating and drop in activities to enjoy.  A modest entrance fee, and your non riding family can have fun for hours while you explore the backcountry.

  3. Shopping:  With quaint townsites offering many handcrafted and one of a kind creations, you never know exactly what you’ll find in the shops in BC. Artisans are around every corner, and deals on backcountry gear and outerwear are offered throughout the season from many local dealerships and retail locations.  This is great news especially if you are a visitor from the United States.  You’ll find extra spending power in British Columbia.

  4. Spa Day:  Most destination resorts offer health and wellness packages from location.  British Columbia is diverse in natural health modalities, including massage therapy, craniosacral therapy, aromatherapy and reflexology.

  5. Cabins and Warm-up Shelters:  Many families enjoy the many warm-up shelters and cabins maintained by snowmobile clubs even if they aren’t hardcore boondockers.  A great place to spend the day, it is common to see family and friends gather to simply enjoy time at the cabin tobogganing and taking in the beautiful scenery.

  6. Hot springs:  BC boasts numerous world class developed and undeveloped hot springs throughout the province.  Radium, Fairmount, Ainsworth, Harrison, Halcyon are just a few premiere hot springs in the province.  Known for their healing properties, many tourists flock to British Columbia year-round for these magical waters.

British Columbia has something for everyone, especially in the winter months.  Book your trip today and turn your sled-cation into a family vacation to remember.
