MEET BC’S RIDERS: NIA & TUNDRA, A TRAILHEAD DUO

If you’ve ever rolled up to a snowmobile trailhead in British Columbia, chances are you've been greeted by a warm smile (and maybe even a wagging tail). That’s the friendly staff and volunteers from the local snowmobile clubs—always ready to help with day tickets and any questions you might have about the trails. If you've recently explored the Sea to Sky region or Sicamous, you’ve probably met two of the friendliest faces at the trailhead: Nia and her furry sidekick, Tundra.

MEET YOUR TRAILHEAD DUO

Nia has been a key figure in BC’s snowmobiling community for nearly a decade, involved at clubs like the PMSC Powder Mountain Snowmobile Club and most recently Sled Sicamous. But she’s much more than a staff member—she’s a passionate snowmobiler who’s dedicated to ensuring every rider has the best experience possible.

“Being at the trailhead is one of the best parts of my job,” Nia shares. “There’s something special about seeing the excitement on riders' faces as they get ready to hit the trails. It’s contagious.”

Alongside Nia at the booth is Tundra, a dog who’s practically a snowmobile mascot in her own right. With her wagging tail and calming presence, Tundra is the perfect icebreaker, making every rider feel at ease and excited for the adventure ahead.

THE ULTIMATE ADVENTURUE BUDDY; ON AND OFF THE TRAIL

And when it’s time to hit the trails, Nia and Tundra are out there together. “For the past seven years, Tundra and I have been partners in adventure,” says Nia. “Her first snowmobile ride was on December 1st, 2018, at Sproatt Mountain cabin. Since then, it’s been nothing but full-throttle mountain life. Tundra has taught me how to truly live in the moment. Whether we’re on the snow, water, or dirt, she brings a joy to every experience—even if we've been there a hundred times before. She’s shown me what it means to greet every day with a smile, to embrace every adventure with excitement, and to turn strangers into friends.”

BC: A DOG-FRIENDLY DESTINATION

BC isn’t just known for its epic snowmobiling; it’s also one of the most dog-friendly places in the world. If you’re planning on bringing your furry friend along for the ride, Nia has some great tips to ensure your dog’s safety and comfort.

“Tundra always wears a Ruffwear jacket for warmth and a harness for safety,” Nia says. “I also carry a doggy first aid kit just in case.” She’s quick to remind riders not to leave their dogs in the car for hours while they’re on the trails. “BC has so many pet-friendly accommodations, and there are even local dog walkers who can take care of your dog while you’re riding. That way, you can enjoy your adventure without worry.”

With a wide range of pet-friendly lodges, cabins, and even hotels, you can rest easy knowing your four-legged companion will have just as much fun off the trails as you do.

NEXT TIME YOU’RE IN SICAMOUS…

Next time you’re out riding in Sicamous, swing by the Sled Sicamous trailhead to grab your day ticket and don’t hesitate to ask Nia about current trail conditions or even what adventure she and Tundra are planning next. With stunning views, well-groomed trails, and a welcoming community that embraces both riders and their pets, BC's snowmobiling scene is ready to show you the best of the Shuswap—and Nia and Tundra and trailhead ambassadors just like them are there to help make your experience even better.
